Swedish Vagabond becomes Swedish VagaMom

I was born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden. One out of four girls, I was the adventurous one in the middle. A creative soul with a burning desire to see the world, I left for the US at 19 and never looked back.

My dreams of becoming an actress took a turn somewhere in Mexico in 1999 when I got to borrow a 35mm Canon camera and the Swedish Vagabond was born. Photography became a passion that became my dream job. My profession as a photographer took me all around the world, and I was the happiest when I was on a solo trip in a country far, far away. I was – and still am! – passionate about photographing people in their element, doing what they love to do. Click here to see some of my work.

This kind of lifestyle didn’t include much domestic work (if any) and my fridge was typically empty besides some beer and yogurt. I was the girl that would say: “All my friends are getting married and having kids, and all I can think about is which country I’m going to visit next.”

I was 39 years old in 2017, the year when everything changed.

I was 39 years old in 2017, the year when everything changed. My mother passed away and my world fell apart. A deep desire of wanting to start my own family and grow roots started to flourish within me. My then-boyfriend proposed and we turned the worst year of my life around to become a starting point for something new. A family.

To better my chances of being a good mother (and the overall health of my self and my family), I completed 2 years of studying with IIN and am now a Holistic Health Coach with extra knowledge in Gut and Hormone Health. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as my journey of motherhood has been full of surprises including; severe postpartum depression, hypothyroidism, a miscarriage and about a million other crazy things that hormones can stir up.

I created this website to share tips and information revolving women’s health, nutrition and travel (at 1.5 years old my son has now been on 28 flights!).

I wish I had known more about how dark and lonely postpartum can be and that there are alternatives to anti-depressants. I wish I had known endocrine disruptors in plastic and fragrances affect your ability to conceive, and that a gluten-free diet increases your chances of getting pregnant. I kept hearing myself say, “I wish I had known…” so here I am.

I am excited to share some of my experiences on this insanely amazing and fun (and equally maddening and scary) journey of motherhood. I hope the information here will help you as much as it has helped me.
